Our Message

St. Paul's Church is a parish in the Diocese of San Joaquin of the Anglican Church in North America. As such, it is a constituent member of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes both Catholic and Protestant traditions. We accept Jesus as Savior, and we promise to follow him as Lord. We believe in One God,

the Father who created us and all things,
the Son who redeems us from sin and death,
the Holy Spirit who renews and sanctifies us.

We believe the Holy Scriptures to be the Word of God and to contain all things necessary for salvation; and we accept the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds as basic statements of our beliefs.

The Habitual Life

The great English writer Samuel Johnson is reported to have said, "The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken." It appears that he was thinking of negative habits that end up enslaving us.

But, there is another perspective, too – one that keeps in mind the positive effect of positive habits. After all, it is good to have the habit of kindness, compassion and love. And it is good to have the habit of prayer, worship and service. It is good to live habitually if we have good habits!

But good habits are not automatic – they need to be chosen and developed, so here are some habits to consider nurturing in our lives:

  • saying grace before meals
  • expressing love to family and friends
  • reading the Bible and praying daily
  • worshiping in church on Sundays
  • giving away a portion of our income
  • voluntering our skills and services

These habits will never disappoint us.
